“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (ESV)
Such a simple concept that many people have failed to grasp. During our daily routine we often get caught up in what we are doing and forget to just stop and be aware of God's presence. This however, is one of the most important things we can do in our daily routine. When we stop and rest in his presence, our worries fade away, our stress vanishes. For we understand that God is in control and that nothing can stand against him.
Spending time with God isn't a magical remedy that removes all your problems. It does however, allow you to see them differently. To see your problems through God's eyes. When you spend time with God, you'll no longer view your problems as major issues, as you serve the creator of the universe. You serve the God who can do all things. Compared to him, your problems aren't even worthy of mention. So although your problems will still be there, you won't be worried about them as they are nothing compared to our magnificent creator.
"Know that I am God." Most people know what God is. They know he is an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, spiritual being, but how many know who God is? This verse tells us to get to know God on an intimate level. It asks us to spend time getting to know our loving creator. Getting to know the one who sacrificed his Son in order to have a relationship with us. Getting to know the one who knows you better than you know yourself.
So let me encourage you to set aside some time each day just to spend time getting to know God. Whether you do this by reading your Bible, listening to music, or just sitting in silence with him, you will slowly get to know him better. And when you know God you won't stress about anything, you won't fear the future, for you will have the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Prayer
Lord, sometimes it can be easy to get distracted and to forget to spend time in your presence. No matter what we are doing Lord, let us never forget that you are sovereign. Let us never forget that, no matter our circumstances, no matter our problems, you are God. You alone can calm the storms that surround us. So Lord, we ask that you are with us today and that you fill us with your peace that surpasses all understanding. Amen.
