"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (ESV)

This is the most well known verse in the Bible. Practically all Christians have memorised it and know what it means. However, many only know it on an intellectual level, in this post I hope I can show you just how beautiful this verse truly is.

God loves you, he loved you so much that he gave up his only son, just so you could be free. When he did this, there was no doubt in his mind if it was worth it. God knew that we would continue to drift away from him if he did nothing. God saw that most people would never come into a personal relationship with him. God was not satisfied with this, for he loves all the people of the world. So God decided to do something. God himself would reconcile us to him.

Therefore, God sent his son Jesus. God sent him to be born as one of us, to suffer the same trials that we face, and ultimately, to die so that we would be able to come before the Almighty God, and enter into a personal relationship with him. God sacrificed his one and only son, so that he could be in relationship with us.

When God did this, he knew that not all would want to be in a relationship with him. Yet, without hesitation, God sent his son to die. In his mind, if there was even a chance that he could be in relationship with just one more person, he would have done the same thing. For that is how much he loves us.

God loves you, more than you could ever know. No matter what you've done, no matter who you are, God loves you enough to send his only son to die for you. Never forget, that while we were still sinners, God chose to give up his Son so that we might have life. (Romans 5:8)

Prayer

Lord, we will never truly be able to understand the love you have for us, yet even so, we thank you. With the little we can understand we thank you. Thank you for sending your Son to die for us so that we could have a relationship with you. Thank you for giving us an eternal future with you. Lord we pray that we will never forget how great a sacrifice you made in order for us to know you personally. Amen.
