"If I go out into the fields, I see the bodies of people slaughtered by the enemy. If I walk the city streets, I see people who have died of starvation. The prophets and priests continue with their work, but they don’t know what they’re doing.” (NLT)
Personally I see this on a regular basis (metaphorically speaking). I see people who have been defeated by the enemy everytime I go into the city. I see people who have no hope; no faith. I see those who starve. They hunger for something that they can't identify and spend their whole lives searching for a way to satisfy the hunger. They try everything they can and they find temporary satisfaction in the pleasures of this world. Yet inevitably, the hunger always returns. For they ignore the one who can truly satisfy them.
They have their own prophets and priests, though they aren't referred to as such. The anti-theists, the ones who spend their time preaching evolution, the big bang, and other "facts" that draw people away from God. They continue their work but don't know that they are dooming people. These people however, are not malicious, they don't know that they are preaching against truth instead of for it (as they would have you believe). They are simply misled and decieved just like the others, they just spend their time decieving others.
Only God can satisfy; only God can save us. Do not be ashamed, go out and look for those who are starving. Do what you can to help. Invite them to Church, show them who Jesus really is. Together we can change the world. Together we can see Jesus touch the lives of all those who have rejected him. We can see them change their minds and accept him as their Lord and Saviour.
Prayer
Lord you have granted us an amazing opportunity by placing us where you have. We are able to aid those who might have gone without aid. We are able to show them your love and your life. We ask that you direct us to those that we can help and that you give us the words to say. Amen.
