"And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light." (ESV) "Let there be light." The first recorded words of God. God looked into the darkness and didn't like what he saw. So he made a decision. He decided that his creation would be one of light and not darkness. One of hope and not despair. One of life and not death. Throughout the Bible, Light and Darkness are used repeatedly to symbolise Good and Evil, Life and Death, and God and Satan. Although this passage refers to actual light I am going to diverge slightly and focus on the less literal interpretation of this verse. You cannot hide light from someone in darkness for it will be all that they see. God decided that he would not be hidden from us as he is the light in our darkness. "Let there be light." In one statement, God decrees that he will be with us. He didn't add an exception, he didn't add any reason for there not to be light. No matter where we are or what we've done, his light will still shine. Today let me encourage you. God's light is visible to all. He does not hide from anyone and their sin cannot make him unseen for "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." (John 1:5 NLT) look for God and you will find him. (Jeremiah 29:13) Prayer Lord, thank you for the light you have provided us. Thank you that you don't hide your face. Thank you that you are always with us. We ask that you help us to show your light to others so that they might be saved. Amen.
