Genesis 1:1 - First Impressions

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth"

First impressions are important. The first thing that someone does when we meet them determines how we perceive them, at least till we get to know them better. The same is true with God.

Before we get to know God, we'll base our ideas about him based on what we see him doing; or not doing. This is why many people see suffering and decide that either God doesn't exist, or that he isn't good. However if we look at the Bible and see the very first thing God is recorded doing we learn about God's character.

What is the first thing God does? He creates.

God is the creator, not the destroyer, he spends his time finding ways to build people up, not tear them down. He also doesn't create to cause suffering, later in Genesis we learn that there was no suffering in the world God created. God creates out of love.

Let me assure you that God doesn't cause suffering, God is love and he loves us more than we could ever know.

Prayer

Lord thank you for creating us. Thank you for loving us even though we don't deserve it. I ask that you help us to show others what you are truly like so that their misconceptions won't prevent then from meeting you. Thank you Lord. Amen.
